Monika reviews the newly updated Augustin Hotel in Brussels, Belgium and discovers boutique accommodation minutes from Brussels Midi Station.
The Augustin is a newly renovated four-star hotel, in Brussels, Belgium. It is located five minutes from the Brussels Gare du Midi train station, but once you are inside the hotel, you forget you’re right in the heart of the city. The Augustin is situated on a tree-lined avenue and has a very elegant facade. When we arrived, the check in was quick, welcoming and efficient.
The hotel lobby is an expansive room with the high ceiling gloriously hung with pendant lights. The stairs from the lobby lead to the bar downstairs where the carpeting is colourful but cohesive. The sofas are plush and colour is used intelligently to create a feeling of warmth so guests can sit and enjoy a drink or just relax and mingle. The bar has a good selection of fairly priced drinks. The lobby and the bar represent a perfect blend of sophistication and design.
We stayed in a deluxe room. It was comfortable and the soundproofing was excellent. The ventilation was good, as well, with the air being crisp and clean. The thick curtains ensured we could sleep comfortably till late without the daylight disturbing our sleep. The soft, downy pillows and the comfortable heating added to a good sleep experience. The television offers channels in French, Dutch and English. The room has a minimalist design but has all the necessary comforts in place, I just wish they also had a well-stocked bar in the room.
The bathroom was functional though the bathtub provided a perfect opportunity for a luxurious soak. I really liked the Nuxe hand cleanser and shower gel, infused with honey, and delicate on the skin.
Breakfast is included in the cost of the room. The Augustin offers a continental breakfast buffet every day with a selection of croissants, pastries, muffins, and a selection of bread for toast. There is a wide range of cold meats, spreads, preserves, fruits and vegetables to suit every palate. The star attraction was definitely the self-service orange juicer where you can enjoy a glass of fresh orange juice though a range of ready-made juices is also provided. The breakfast also included fresh and hot scrambled eggs and crispy bacon, perfect for a cold wintry morning. The Nespresso coffee machine with a generous selection of capsules made sure you are ready for an active day ahead.
On sunny days, the Augustin also has a terrace where you can enjoy your breakfast. The hotel concierge was very helpful when we wanted to order dinner and recommended restaurants in the area. Since it was raining, we decided to call in food that was delivered right to our room.
The hotel provides complimentary wifi, a work desk, and a coffee machine in the room. It has a meeting room, with an overhead projection system, and also a small gymnasium and a work centre; all the traits of a good business hotel without the ‘don’t care a damn attitude’ of the staff. The hotel has no parking space of its own; however, paid parking is available nearby. The front office person was both engaging and resourceful with a good knowledge of the local area.
The Augustin is wonderfully located in the Marolles neighbourhood of Brussels, within walking distance from the city’s main attractions.
Also, it is just a few minutes from the Gare du Midi, making it perfect if you are coming into Brussels for business or pleasure. The Augustin is a charming hotel with 47 rooms, fair prices and a welcoming attitude. The décor, the flair of execution, and personalised service definitely classify it as a boutique hotel, while the location and other amenities listed above make it ideal for business purposes, giving you the best of both worlds.
Revel in The Augustin and you won’t be disappointed!
