Walloon Brabant, Belgium

Despite its proximity to Brussels, Walloon Brabant is the one Belgian province we’ve neglected on CheeseWeb. While we’ve spent a good deal of time in Waterloo, including trekking up the Butte du Lion, and Louvain-la-Neuve, visiting the Herge Museum, we’ve failed to document them here, something we hope to rectify in the future.

Despite our neglect, Walloon Brabant is home to one of our favourite tourist attractions in Belgium – the gorgeous Villers Abbey, a crumbling ruin that is a beautiful piece of Wallonia’s Major Heritage. It’s a beautiful spot for a picnic on a sunny summer day.

Andrew and I aren’t particularly religious but in our travels we’ve visited many beautiful religious buildings of various faiths. We can’t help but admire the devotion and attention to detail that has gone into these various structures. Despite your religious affiliation (or lack thereof) it’s hard to not find these places both awe-inspiring and peaceful.
