A Tale of Two Towers in Belém, Lisbon, Portugal
In the bustling quarter of Belém, in Lisbon, Portugal, two towers; one a modern monument and one an ancient fortress, offer a view of the city and its maritime history that should not be missed.
We visited Portugal during Alison’s parents’ most recent visit. We flew from Brussels to Lisbon, where we spent four days exploring the capital city on foot. We love Lisbon’s artistic flare, from the colourful Azulejos to the creative street art – Lisbon is a little gritty and we like it that way.
From Lisbon we travelled to UNESCO designated Sintra, where we visited three stunning palaces and their gardens. After an overnight stay, we headed to the far western edge of the country, before heading south to the coast. We spent a rather ill-fated night near Faro, dealing with rental car issues, before heading into Spain.
Portugal is high on our list of places to visit early in our Motorhome Adventure. We’d love to spend some time in Porto before heading south, exploring the tiny inland towns and villages along the way.
