Wieliczka Salt Mine Day Trip from Krakow Poland
A day-trip to the Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the top things to do in Krakow Poland. The mine is an incredible UNESCO site of underground salt carvings.
We’ve only dipped our toes into Poland but from what we’ve seen we’re eager to return. We flew to southern Poland to attend the wedding of Belgian and Polish friends. We arrived in Krakow a few days early so we could explore and we fell in love with this colourful, little city. (Eating our collective body weights in Pierogi helped!) From Krakow we took a bus to the awe-inspiring Wieliczka Salt Mine – we can see why this work of art ended up on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
At the mine, we met up with our Polish friend who took us out into the stunning Silesian Beskids Mountains, where the wedding was held in a tiny, colourful, village church. Then we ate, we drank, we danced, on repeat, until the wee hours of the morning. The Polish really know how to throw a wedding! We can’t wait to slow travel from village to village through the Polish countryside.
