Amsterdam & North Holland, Netherlands

Despite only living in Amsterdam for six months, it’s a city that still feels like home, whenever we visit. It’s funny to think, the very first time we visited Amsterdam, on that whirlwind European trip in our twenties, it was the one place we thought we could never live. How things change. We’d both move back to Amsterdam in a heartbeat (just maybe not for winter…)

There’s no denying the iconic canals are magical and Amsterdam has some of the best museums in the world. And, although the touristy city centre can feel overwhelming to first time visitors, locals know the best spots to escape the craziness and get that gezellig feeling.

But there’s more to North Holland than Amsterdam. The beaches of Den Helder, the historic cheese market of Alkmaar, the giant flower auction of Aalsmeer, and the quaint village of Edam are all well worth visiting.
