Umbria, Italy

Umbria is Tuscany’s less well-known sister, but the truth is this makes us love her just that much more. A chance internet acquaintance had us travelling to Umbria for a long weekend and we’re so glad we did. Not only did we forge a friendship with fellow expats, but we discovered a beautiful and underrated region of Italy.

From our base in the hilltop village of Spello, we travelled around the countryside, making stops in Assisi, Montefalco, Bevagna, and Norcia (or, as Andrew named it, Pork Town.) We had some of the most amazing meals ever – including an indoor picnic of goodies purchased from local shopkeepers. We can see why our expat friends fell in love with this stunning region and we can’t wait to return.
