Over the years as an expat in Belgium, I’ve acquired quite a database of links to great resource websites. In this section you will find my personal favourites organised by category.
- Belgium – Everything you ever wanted to know more about the crazy little country of Belgium.
- Expat Resources – Whether you’re a first time expat or a global nomad, you’ll find some great info on these sites.
- Travel Resources – Help for planning a trip around the neighbourhood or a around the world.
- My Favourite Restaurants – I like to eat at restaurants. These are my favourites so far.
- My UNESCO World Heritage Sites List – I also like lists and travel. This is my work in progress.

Alison, since arriving in Brussels 2 weeks ago, I reckon the best thing that has happened to me so far is stumbling across your blog about all things Belgium. Its been a great resource so far and I just love how informative and user-friendly both your tabs and lists have been. I was wondering two things however. Firstly, I miss Malaysian and Korean food very much! Do you know or can recommend any Korean/ Malaysian restaurants located in/around Brussels? Secondly, do you have a list of tourist shops or recommendations for Brussels-specific gifts that I can take back for friends and relatives when going back to the US?
Thank you for being such a valuable resource to expats in Belgium.

Hi Kanchan! Welcome to Brussels and to the CheeseWeb community and thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled you’ve been finding the website useful. You’ve asked two very good questions. I actually haven’t had Korean or Malaysian food in Brussels but now that you’ve brought that to my attention, I think I should make it my mission. I have heard that Hana is a good Korean-Japanese resto. http://www.resto.be/ware/details.jsp?businessid=47784&lg=EN As for Malaysian, you have me stumped. I can point you to Indonesian or Thai but I haven’t heard of a Malaysian restaurant here. (Market opportunity for someone?)
As to gifts for the folks back home, it depends what you are looking for. For comic related items you can head to the TinTin or Smurf shops near Grand Place. Chocolate is always well received by my family and for that I head to Place Grand Sablon. If you are looking for t-shirts and that sort of thing, there is a cool chain of shops, also near Grand Place called The Brussels Corner http://www.thebrusselscorner.be/
If you are looking for food items, besides chocolate, Dandoy cookies do beautiful gift boxes and have many locations. You can also head to the Spirit of Wallonia store http://www.spiritofwallonia.be/ It’s not strictly Brussels of course but they have lots of nice things.
I hope this helps and if you have any more questions don’t hesitate to contact us. You can also join our facebook page and ask our other community members for suggestions.
