If I’ve been a bit quiet on CheeseWeb lately, I have good reason. I am busy preparing for the June edition of the Brussels Accessible Art Fair.
Some of you may remember I took my first leap into the Art world last fall. I was thrilled to be offered a spot in the Accessible Art Fair. Things went well for me and I will be participating in the next AAF from June 4th-6th.
The June AAF will be in a new location – the Conrad Hotel on Avenue Louise. There will be even more artists participating; a total of 55 in all.
If you aren’t familiar with AAF, it’s a great concept. Unlike a traditional gallery setting, where art buyers are only occasionally able to meet with artists at show openings, AAF allows artists and art-lovers to interact. This interaction makes art more (you guessed it) accessible to the visitors.
Not only is this dialogue beneficial to the viewers, as an artist I found the reactions to my work invaluable.
Coming from a stock photography background, I often have little or no interaction with my buyers. Branching into art was a whole new kettle of fish for me. Having people ask questions about my work and my processes was really exciting. And let’s face it, it always feels nice to get compliments too.
The other great thing about AAF is it’s totally free to go and view the art. There are painters, photographers, sculptors and mixed media artists in a range of styles from traditional to abstract. The works are affordable too and range in price from 50-5000€, so you can find something you love within your budget.
So these days I am busy printing, framing, and finishing off some final pieces to show at AAF. I will be featuring my Forgotten Postcards Series exclusively this time.
The Forgotten Postcards begin with a photograph I have taken of an iconic landmark or landscape. I then create a digital collage in Photoshop, by layering different textures and scanned items. I attempt to create a finished work that resembles an old or faded postcard that has been left behind and forgotten about. My goal is to show the timelessness of these landmarks without erasing all traces if modern life.
Below are some of the Forgotten Postcards I will be selling at AFF. You can see more of my Art and Photography on my ACM Photography website.

Congratulations on your second year at the art fair! I’m so disappointed I won’t be able to come by and see you and your work in person. We’re leaving that friday for a 2 week trip. I’m sure it will be a huge success though! It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I really like the Amsterdam one and the Japanese Tower.

Sorry you can’t make it Amy, but I hope you have a great vacation. We need to go on a photo safari together sometime. The Amsterdam Postcard is one of my favs too. Glad you liked it!

I agree, they are all wonderful but Amsterdam and Keukenhof have something special … have you tried the postcard motif with your windows or blossoms?, maybe a group that includes a landscape with its details done in a postcard series, or a panorama framed as two or three postcards … I think your concept has a myriad of possibilities … have fun! Love your stuff! Love to all … PP

Great ideas! Love the pano idea especially. Interesting favourites. I love the Amsterdam one too but I really fought with Keukenhof. I think because the photo had so many small details. Glad you like the end result though
I did one piece quite a while back with an Iris. It wasn’t a postcard exactly but had a similar antique feel to it. I have a project in mind for them but I need to find some old botanical illustrations that I can use without copyright issues. It’s been a tough search.

Oh my God – not to ooze with sweetness, but your postcards are impeccable, gorgeous tones – intensely vibrant. Very in line with my love of letter writing and fine architecture. Question – can I order a stack? No, scratch that. I’ll just come visit and grab them in person!

You can absolutely come and visit
As for ordering, that can be done too. I sell prints through my photo website and I’m experimenting with PhotoMoto for postcards and greeting cards. I also have work on RedBubble so it’s all out there. Glad you like them!

Oh thank you so much! The windmill was one of my first ones and is still a favourite for me too so I’m really glad you like it
And definitely, Photoshop is addictive and very fun to experiment. I have a few tutorials over on my photography site if you wanna get your hands dirty
