Well Andrew and I are back to the grind today. I’m at my computer for the first time in weeks and he’s in Milan for a meeting.
Outside it’s raining and it seems that we missed the two weeks of blazing sun that shone down on Belgium. For once I can’t complain about the rain. It was so smoggy and hazy when we landed and my lawn and garden were pretty crispy. The weather in Nova Scotia was, although not what I would call hot, much better than I expected. I even had to buy a few t-shirts and peal off my sweaters.
It was a good trip, but as usual, too rushed and there was not enough time to see hardly anyone on my list. To those of you we missed, we hope to make it up to you in July when we are back for our real vacation.
Our flight home was long and sleepless but otherwise uneventful. All flights were as scheduled and we managed to make it home with all four suitcases and nothing broken, which in itself is something of a small miracle.
There are some new shoes and shirts in my closet and some old clothes that have been newly tailored. My bookshelf is no longer sparse (in fact I’m having a hard time deciding what to read first) and we have some new movies to enjoy.
I didn’t buy much in the way of food, but there are six bottle of Maple Wine awaiting homes as well as a couple boxes of organic Mac & cheese.
We got home around 4pm on Friday and after cleaning the house and unpacking we crashed for a good 14 hours of sleep. It felt good. Saturday was filled with restocking the pantry and that evening we had a treat.
We went in to Brussels for the Gotan Project concert and it was excellent. Our seats weren’t the greatest and the auditorium was very hot. But the music was superb and we had an excellent time.
Sunday was our seventh anniversary (some days it’s hard to believe it’s been seven years already… other days it’s hard to believe it has only been seven). We spent the day in Spa unwinding from the hectic pace of our trip and taking some time for ourselves. It was a nice day.
So today is catch-up day, as I wade through e-mails and laundry and cleaning and bill paying. Hopefully I’ll have some time to get back to work. Ah, the glamorous life of the expat.
