After the incessant rain this month, it’s hard to believe that summer is almost over and the kiddies will be heading back to school. I pray for a mild and (dare I dream) sunny autumn.
Last weekend was relaxing, and probably the last time we will have to relax for a while. September will be a busy work month for Andrew and before we know it his parents will be here to visit.
Friday night Andrew wanted to go out to eat and try someplace new. This is always a gamble in Brussels. There are many fantastic places and many more fly-by-night crapola joints.
Whenever we don’t want to take a risk we hit Andreea’s site. She never steers us wrong.
The restaurant we chose was L’Arrosoir, in the Sablon area. This is one of my favorite areas in Brussels. Not only is it the home of all of the major chocolate makers and my favorite shop, but it has a great lively atmosphere and it is full of tiny shops and restaurants just full of character.
L’ Arrosoir means watering can in French and the décor is supposed to resemble the inside of a greenhouse. It seats about 30 and serves typical Belgian style food made from fresh ingredients. We both had duck (done 2 different ways) as a main and an eggplant tart starter that was divine. The service was very friendly and I would definitely go back. You can read Andreea’s review
here if you are interested.
Saturday was errand day. We went to one of the big grocery stores to stock up (our local ones are fairly small and don’t have all the good stuff). We even made a mad dash into Carrefour for coffee (think Wal-Mart on a Saturday in North America). That night we stayed in and watched movies.
Sunday we took the Americans to the spa for a long afternoon of relaxation. The toughest decision… hot tub or sauna? Afterwards we headed back to our place for wine, cheese, Shannon’s world famous guacamole and pita. The girls trounced the boys at cards and a good time was had by all.
This week is all about nailing down plans for the in-laws’ visit. Expedia, don’t fail me now.
