I know I’ve commented on this before, but sometimes the multicultural-ness of my Belgian life makes me laugh. Take this week for example:
1. Monday – appointment with Belgian Doctor
2. Tuesday – Met up with old friend from Canada who is Canadian/Norwegian and her Norwegian guy (in Brussels)
3. Wednesday – A Kiwi flew to Brussels (well took the train) and hung out at my house.
4. Thursday – Andrew and I went for supper with our Dutch friend before he drove home to the Netherlands.
Today I am expecting to hear from one of my favorite Canadians, who I am meeting in Ireland next month. I also may hear from my American friends when they get back from their ski trip in Switzerland.
I worked at a multicultural university before I left Canada, and I can honestly say I didn’t often have run-ins with this many nationalities on a daily basis (at least not in person anyway.)
I think this is one of my favorite things about living in Belgium.

Me too … it’s a crazy old world, isn’t it. And the multi-cultural mixing might just help you with things like the New Zealand (and oh so correct) pronunication of ‘ten’ and ‘pen’
and I can learn to say ‘aboot’ just like you and yours.

Well, we have returned from our not so snowy winter holiday. We spent the entire span of 9 days with 16 Dutch folk, and another 15 or so Dutchies in the neighboring chalet.
Still, I did not learn a word of Dutch. How is this possible?

Beacause most folk from the Netherlands speak better English than I do… or at least Kiwi’s

I’d have to say I totally had the same experiences while living in Switzerland. Here in Vancouver, you can run into a few expats every now and then but usually the only ones you see are American’s.
