tree0003 The Diva Tree
Meet the ‘Diva Tree.’

After a trip to Brico, to find our Christmas tree, on Wednesday, was unsuccessful, we ventured out again last night. The Brico pickings had been slim – only a few Charlie Brown trees were left. We were concerned.

Our concern was unfounded. We entered the Christmas tree wonderland that was Botanica, a good sized greenhouse up the street. We debated between two decent looking trees and then loaded one in the car.

Our attempt to find a tree stand was less successful so we resorted to the ‘two boards nailed to the bottom of the tree’ routine.

Andrew got the tree up with minimal fuss and wired it to the ceiling to avoid any late night cat disasters. (After splurging on the ornaments as we did, we’d like to keep them in one piece).

When she was finally decorated, we had to laugh. We have dubbed her ‘The Diva Tree,’ and she is most definitely a she…

When we selected our ornaments, we went for colour… very bright and bold colour. We didn’t notice at the time, but it seems we were both drawn to glitter, glitz and beads.

Our little Diva Tree sure does sparkle.

So she may not look Christmassy enough for some purists, but she is our first European Christmas Tree and we love her, glitz and all.

(PS – Before we moved to Belgium, we did save a box of ornaments that had sentimental value. They are stashed safely in my Grandfather’s closet and someday will mingle with their European kin.)
